To apply LCR equality standards in the council and give up to date guidance on how we take forward this agenda in the future.
Responsibilities include:
- Provide strategic leadership and management of equality and diversity issues throughout the City Council, driving forward Council’s commitment to promote equality of opportunity, celebrate and value diversity, eliminate unlawful discrimination, harassment and victimisation, and promote the good relations.
- Maintain an expert level of knowledge of current and emerging international, national and local initiatives relating to equality and diversity in order to assist the Mayor, Council Members and senior managers in the formulation, review and response to these policies.
- Advise the Council on its legal obligations under the Equality Act 2010, the Public Sector Equality Duty 2011 and other relevant legislation, both as a service provider and as an employer, and to recommend how best to ensure compliance.
- Review and manage the implementation of the equality impact assessment toolkit and associated training programme including coordinating and quality assurance of equality duty as part of the budget setting process.
- Ensure the co-ordination and integration of equality activities, initiatives and approaches across the organisation, by developing a virtual team approach with legal, communications, HR and other council services as appropriate to ensure that the Council supports its staff and delivers its services in accordance with its legal obligations and best practice.
