Key Responsibilities:
- Provide expert legal advice on all aspects of contracts and procurement law to various departments within the local authority.
- Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of contracts and procurement documents, ensuring compliance with statutory requirements and best practice.
- Advise on procurement strategy, risk management, and mitigation in line with local government regulations and policies.
- Represent the local authority in legal proceedings and disputes related to contracts and procurement.
- Keep abreast of changes in relevant legislation and case law, providing updates and training to staff as necessary.
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to support effective and efficient procurement processes.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Qualified solicitor, barrister, or legal executive with a current practicing certificate.
- Demonstrable experience in contracts and procurement law, ideally within a local authority or public sector environment.
- Strong knowledge of public procurement regulations, contract law, and relevant case law.
- Proven ability to draft and negotiate complex contracts and provide clear, practical legal advice.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to manage a diverse workload and work effectively under pressure.
