As Head of Service the post holder will provide direct strategic leadership and ensure effective operational management within the Children’s Centre for Excellence and Assurance and other designated Multi Agency Children’s Services. They will ensure there is compliance with the relevant statutory and regulatory requirements, policy, performance and practice standards.
The post carries the status and duties of the designated Principal Social Worker for the Local Authority. As such will be a key advisor to the Chief Executive and Director of Children’s Services regarding the quality of social work practice in the Authority and on complex safeguarding issues. The post entails working collaboratively with colleagues across both social care and mulit-agency partners to promote and develop excellent social work and safeguarding practice, ensuring it is the best it can be and is consistently good. The post holder through leadership of the Centre of Excellence will ensure the robust scrutiny and challenge of practice standards, identify gaps and drive service improvement and innovation including the development of a response to contextual risks. The meaningful inclusion of children and families in both the day-to-day decision making that affects their lives and also the strategic decision making that informs the design and delivery of services is central to the role.
