How to unplug and relax during the Christmas break

With the holiday season just around the corner, it’s time to unwind and reflect on your 2023 successes. In this blog, we’re sharing our top five tips for disconnecting from work, allowing you to fully enjoy the festive season and give your mind a well-deserved break.

  1. Plan ahead

Get a head start by completing as much as possible before the break. By doing so, you can avoid constantly checking emails or returning in January to a mountain of tasks. Plan your Christmas schedule as well, filling it with activities that help you unwind, whether it’s watching Love Actually on repeat or going for a cosy pub lunch with your family and friends.

  1. Set boundaries

Don’t hesitate to say ‘no’ to additional commitments if your pre-Christmas schedule is already packed. Instead, suggest rescheduling for the New Year when everyone is refreshed and ready to dive back into work.

  1. Quality time with friends and family

Take advantage of the holiday season when most friends and family are back in town. Close your laptop and immerse yourself in the joy of being together. So what are you waiting for? Get those mates on the phone and make some festive plans!

  1. Completely disconnect

Truly switch off during your annual leave and resist the temptation to check emails unless absolutely necessary. If your role demands responsiveness during the festive period, set strict boundaries, such as dedicating 20 minutes each morning to reply to messages. Sign out of unnecessary accounts, and communicate clearly with clients about your availability.

  1. Embrace the outdoors

As full-time workers, we often spend little time in nature. Yet, spending time outside can significantly boost mental health and reduce stress. Take the opportunity to turn off screens and enjoy the crisp air by taking a walk with loved ones or heading to the beach with a hot chocolate.

So, whether you celebrate Christmas or not, this is your reminder to put yourself first and take some time out to relax and rejuvenate. Merry Christmas from the Imperium team – we’ll see you in the New Year!
