Thinking of making the shift to temporary work? How exciting! But before you do, we’re…

How to find your next interim contract
Searching for your next interim role within the public sector? With the right tools and contacts, tracking down your next assignment can be a walk in the park. In this quick-read blog we offer top tips on how to find your next interim contract.
Network, network, network
If you’re an experienced interim then it’s likely you know people in the industry, so why not catch up with them over a drink or reach out on Linkedin to organise a video call? Now, we’re not advocating harassing your ex-colleagues for a new client, but there is no harm in having a casual catch-up about what you’re looking for, as well as where they’re currently working and who they know. It might be worth filling them in on your latest experience, especially if you’ve had a few roles since you last met so they can offer advice on job opportunities that suit your newly-found skills. Overall, you want your network to know you’re open to roles and share leads where they know of them.
Talk to recruiters
Recruitment agencies can be invaluable to helping you find your next interim contract as they have a wealth of contacts on speed dial. Building rapport with consultants is also a good idea as they will be in a better position to help match you to a role that suits your needs and can even update you on vacancies before they go live.

Don’t let your job search overcloud your mental health
We know it can be overwhelming looking for a new contract, especially when your previous project has already drawn to a close. However, it is so important to stay calm and be proactive in your job search without letting it take over your life. Treat your hunt for a new contract like a job itself and set yourself clear boundaries each day so you don’t get burned out. This also ensures that you have time to relax between applications, which is, in turn, crucial for producing good applications!
Look outside of your comfort zone
Sometimes it can be productive to widen your job search, for example by looking for a role further away or adjusting your rate. This can help increase the chances of employment and who knows, it could lead you to your next passion! Let your recruiter know what you are willing to compromise on (if anything at all) so they can help you narrow down the search. Having said this, we do not recommend taking on a role simply because it is available to you – it must be something you can see yourself happily doing in the foreseeable. This is why it is important to know your worth going into the interim contract search and having a mental list of non-negotiables – but again, it’s good to be open minded!
