Utilising LinkedIn as an interim

Are you an interim looking for your next gig? Did you know you probably have all the tools you need right in front of you? In this article, we discuss how to boost your LinkedIn profile – from building an audience, to successfully selling yourself as a candidate.

Connect with relevant people

Building a strong network of professionals on LinkedIn is a great way to increase your chances of finding a new contract. If you’re just starting out on the platform, make sure to connect with previous employers and colleagues – as well as anyone who works in the same role that you’re interested in pursuing. This way, you can stay in the know about industry events, news and most importantly, job opportunities. We also recommend adding people you meet at events on LinkedIn so you can stay in touch. Aim to get your connections up to 500+ as this will ensure that your profile gets attention from everyone from hiring managers, to recruiters and line managers.

Keep your profile up to date

As someone who moves from assignment to assignment, your skills and experience as an interim is constantly evolving. It is important to keep note of your most recent achievements on your LinkedIn profile so potential employers can clearly see if you fit their criteria. Do some research on industry buzzwords and make sure to pepper your profile with these as it will help you get scouted by the right people. Posting on your timeline now and again is also key to showcasing your personality.

Top tip: make your job title stand out by including the end date of your current contract – this way, recruiters can see when you’re next available to take on a project without even having to click on your profile!

Job alerts

One approach to finding your dream role is to make the post of the ‘job alerts’ feature on LinkedIn which lets you know as soon as a position that matches your requirements is posted. Not only will you be able to get ahead of the competition by applying first, but LinkedIn will also show you which of your connections work at the same organisation. Messaging current employees about their experiences (including what questions they were asked in the interview!) can help provide exclusive insight into the company at hand and give you a competitive edge should you apply.

Reach out to interim recruiters

Ask experienced interim recruitment consultants what they think of your profile and where it could be improved to gain traction. Our team are always happy to talk and are well-placed to provide constructive advice on what kind of interim profile gets hits.
